here they come

as a child i remember looking down upon the gulmohur tree, waiting for that first burst of orange-red...
i remember waiting for the first flower to fall in humid silence and i remember running down for it in the sweltering heat, savouring each petal...
and most of all i remember the first monsoons, polishing the streets and washing away that orange/red mass of sunshine...

pantry car

Hot food is available at mealtimes on almost every train in India. In trains having a pantry car, breakfast, lunch and dinner is prepared on board the train.

coimbatore express

The Indian Railway is the third largest rail network in the world, and the rail system is efficient, if not always on schedule. Tracks running well over 60,000 kilometers help connect about 7500 stations, ferrying nearly 20 million people every day. Although distances in India are long and Indian trains aren't the world's best, traveling in them can add a fascinating new dimension to a visitor's experience. There is virtually no better way to make friends with the local people and see the spectacular and diverse Indian countryside. On many routes the railways are the fastest and cheapest way to get around.

boy

a boy being slung on the shoulders of his father during the anti-terrorism rally a week after Mumbai was struck by coordinated terror attacks. hundreds of its residents gathered near the Gateway of India and the Taj Hotel for a protest rally to condemn the strikes and pay respects to the victims.
but unfortunately, what was meant to be a peace rally turned out to be one in which slogans were shouted against Pakistan. sad, really.
